Taking Action Against Leishmaniasis: Strategies and Solutions to Combat the Global Threat.

The Journey Begins Here

This is how it all started…

In October 2003, the seeds of my lifelong journey in leishmaniasis research were sown in the arid soils of a small village in southern Morocco (Foum Zguid – Tata), where I I began my career as an environmental health technician at the Ministry of Health, but also where leishmaniasis silently held its unsuspecting residents.

At the heart of these epidemiological outbreaks of cutaneous leishmaniasis, I witnessed the impact of this parasitic infection on the local community. The faces of those affected told stories of resilience and struggle, igniting a fire within me that pushed me to deepen my understanding of the complex dance between the parasite and its human hosts. From humble beginnings in this small Moroccan village, my path transformed into a journey of discovery and dedication in field epidemiology, with the acquisition of the rank of field epidemiologist from the National School of Public Health – Rabat (ENSP) and Centre of disease control ( CDC- Atlanta). My exciting journey still continue in my doctoral years as a Phd student in epidemiology and medical entomology at the Faculty of Sciences of the Mohammed first University of Oujda.

This is a chronicle of the experiences, challenges and triumphs encountered along the journey, a testament to the evolution from a curious young technician to an academic researcher determined to shed light on the complexities of leishmaniasis, eliminate its epidemic outbreaks in the Eastern region of Morocco, throughout Morocco and all over the whole world ! who knows…

Join me on this retrospective and prospective expedition as we put Leishmania into action.
